Tammy Millsaps

North Iredell basketball star Tammy Millsaps led the Lady Raiders to the 3A State Basketball Championship game vs High Point Central. She was a two time All Conference and All-Tournament Team member. Millsaps also had a stellar career in volleyball and earned All-conference in track and field. She earned a scholarship to Virginia Commonwealth University. As a Division I student-athlete, she played four seasons as a guard, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications/Broadcasting and her Master of Science in Sports Administration/Leadership.
After graduation, she worked at NBC-12 in Richmond in a variety of roles-including directing and producing but coaching was her calling. Her collegiate coaching experience includes head coach at Division II Bloomsburg University (Pennsylvania) and assistant coach at Virginia Union University, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Bloomsburg University and Southern Connecticut University.
As Director of College Admissions and girls’ basketball coach at Capital Preparatory Magnet School in Hartford, CT, Millsaps shaped the team into a national powerhouse and won four consecutive state basketball championships from 2012-2016, each year finishing ranked No. 1 in the state of Connecticut. Millsaps led the New London High School team to the 2023 Connecticut Class MM State Championship despite a roster of only seven players. Millsaps’ players have received scholarships to play at Florida State, Syracuse, Seton Hall, University of Maryland, University of Pittsburgh, Manhattan College and Sacred Heart University.
Millsaps has coached two USA Basketball U17 Olympic Trials participants, a McDonald’s All-American, a Jordan Brand All- American and a two-time Connecticut Gatorade Player of the Year. In 2020, a former player was drafted by the WNBA’s Chicago Sky. Millsaps started the New London Top Flight AAU basketball program for girls in grades 4-9 and directs an annual summer basketball camps at the high school. Also in 2023, she received the NAACP Educator Award for her dedication to improving the lives of the students in her community.
