Sherry Cash

Sherry Cash was a four-sport athlete at South Iredell, earning 12 varsity letters from 1976-1980. She was a member of the first volleyball team at South Iredell in 1977. She was South’s Most Valuable Player and a member of the Western Piedmont Conference All Conference team each year and Conference Player of the Year in 1979. Her number 40 was retired at South Iredell after a stellar career. Her senior year she averaged 28 points per game setting the Conference record for points in a season and points in a career, an impressive 2,127 points. She was named All-State and played in the East/West All Star Game in 1980. She was Conference Player of the Year twice, All Conference three years, Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player three years, All Tournament three years and South’s Most Valuable Player all four years. She starred at softball all four years, being named Most Valuable Player three times and Conference Player of the Year as a senior. She lettered in Track in 1977 and her academic honors included National Beta Club junior and senior years.

Sherry went to play on full academic and athletic scholarships in volleyball, basketball and softball at Lenior-Rhyne and lettered all four years in each sport. She was on th Dean’s List three out of four years, Most Valuable Player in volleyball twice and received the Coach’s Award once in basketball. In softball, she was Most Valuable Player three time and holds an impressive .500 career batting average.

She moved back to Iredell County and began coaching, teaching and being athletic director. She was named Teacher of the Year three times. She coached at South Iredell, West Iredell, North Iredell, Brawley Middle and Lakeshore Middle. She was Assistant Coach for the West Team in the 2001 NC East/West All Star Game and inducted into the South Iredell Athletic Hall of Fame in 2012.
