Michael Royal

Michael Serefine Royal served as cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field coach at Mooresville High School from 2001 – 2010. During his illustrious tenure, his teams won 16 Iredell County Championships, 10 Conference Championships, 7 Regional Championships, and 6 State Championships. During the 2007-08 year, his boys teams were the first in North Carolina to ever win the “Triple Crown” by winning the State Championships in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field in the same year. Coach Royal won Conference Coach of the Year honors 11 times over his career and had the privilege of coaching numerous conference, regional and state champions.

Additionally, he coached a Footlocker Cross Country All-American and a NIKE Indoor Nationals All-American 4 x Mile relay team. Coach Royal coached numerous athletes who continued their athletic careers at the collegiate level including NC State and others. Coach Royal was inducted into the Mooresville High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2018.
