Luther Conger

Luther Conger is a graduate of Scotts High School and was an inaugural member of the 6-man football team. He started in all 24 games from 1948-1950. He was a Co-Captain of the 1949 Tri-County Conference championship team. He also played basketball and baseball. He was a three-year starter in basketball. Luther was also a four-year starting pitcher with a record of 18-4 for Scotts, striking out 18 on one game. He also played for the baseball for Statesville American Legion and the Salisbury Bombers Semi-Pro team.
Conger went on to play baseball at Elon College from 1952-1957 with a record of 18-7 as a starter. He was both All-North State Conference and College All-State pitcher in 1954 and 1955. He signed a baseball contract with the Baltimore Orioles in 1955 and played in their organization until 1958, playing up to their Triple A Louisville.
Conger was inducted into the Elon College Sports Hall of Fame in 1981
