Keith Walker

Keith Walker’s name is synonymous with Statesville’s basketball heritage. Coached by Iredell County Sports Hall of Fame inductee Bill Ellis at Statesville High School. The 1977 graduate set Greyhound records for points in a game with 48 and rebounds in a game with 26. He was All-State as a senior after averaging more than 28 points and more than 10 rebounds per game.
Walker began his college career at Mitchell College, where he was the nation’s leading scorer among small colleges averaging almost 34 points per game. He set Mitchell single game (47) and single season (869) scoring records. He went on to play at Clemson and was a member of its 1980 Elite 8 NCAA Tournament team and Co-captain his senior year.
Walker’s pro career took him to play in Turkey, Belgium, Italy and France. He had a brief NBA stint with the Philadelphia 76ers and played in the CBA and USBL.
Walker has extensive college head coaching experience including Shaw, Division I Delaware State and most recently Allen University. He led Delaware State to its first Big East win over St. John’s and its first ACC win over Wake Forest.
