Johnny Davidson

Year Inducted: 2018

Johnny Davidson was a two-sport star in basketball and baseball at Statesville High School. He graduated from Statesville High School in 1965 and named Most Outstanding Male Athlete, All-Conference and All Tournament. Johnny went on to Erskine College to play baseball and walked on the basketball team.

He transferred to Lenoir-Rhyne College to play basketball averaging 18.5 points his junior year and 19.5 points his senior year. Johnny finished his career at LR with 1,010 points and is still 4th in career free throw percentage at .850. The Bears’ MVP in 1970, he was named All-Conference, All-District, All-Tournament, All-Lutheran All-American.

He graduated from LR and came back to Statesville High School to teach and coach men’s basketball. Johnny also coached cross country and golf. He helped begin the Christmas Holiday Tournament and was named South Piedmont Conference Coach of the Year. Johnny was also inducted into the Lenoir-Rhyne Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
