Emily Johnson Murphy

Emily Johnson Murphy graduated from Statesville High School in 1988, playing basketball, softball and track. She led the Greyhounds back to prominence in basketball scoring 1,349 points in her career. She was two-time Foothill Athletic Conference (FAC) Player of the Year and three-time Team MVP. She played in the 1988 East/West All-Star Game.
Emily went on to the University of North Carolina to play basketball, starting all four years as the Tarheels’ point guard. She finished her career at Carolina with 983 points and ranks 7th in UNC history in career assists with 511. After playing at UNC, she became an assistant coach from 1993 to 1999 and helped lead the Tar Heels to a National Championship in 1994. They also won 4 ACC titles in 5 years.
