Chris Woodfin

Chris Woodfin was the epitome of student-athlete at South Iredell High School and beyond. The eventual valedictorian was three-times named All-Conference in baseball. His senior season he pitched 66 innings, allowed only three earned runs, had 141 strikeouts and surrendered only 13 walks. He was named Foothills Athletic Conference Most Outstanding Player and honored as All-State. He was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays but chose to accept a scholarship to NC State over offers from Florida State, South Carolina, Clemson and Vanderbilt.
At N.C. State, he was a four-year starter as a pitcher and outfielder. His senior year he was named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Most Outstanding Male Scholarship Athlete and was named to the GTE Academic All-America Team. He made the dean’s list eight times, the ACC Honor Roll four times and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in industrial engineering.
In 1991, he signed a professional contract with the Chicago White Sox . He pitched for the Sarasota White Sox, South Bend White Sox and Gulf Coast White Sox from 1991-93. In 1993 at South Bend, he had 34 strikeouts in 16.1 innings and a 1.62 ERA. Woodfin pitched for the Prince William Cannons in 1994 and was Single A Carolina League All-Star, finishing in the Top 10 in game appearances and saves.
In 1994, Woodfin was moved up to the Double A Birmingham Barons where he was a teammate of Michael Jordan. In 1995, he was Double A Southern League All-Star and was in the top 10 in games finished and saves. His 20 saves set a single-season record for the Barons.
After his baseball career, Woodfin has had a successful career with Cisco Systems for 25+ years.
